This week we celebrate Women’s History Month, including the amazing accomplishments and firsts from many women in sports history.
As part of Women’s History Month, we celebrate the women of Baseball, from the AAGPBL, Negro Leagues, MLB, Little League, Authors and Media.
Highlighting some of the women stars of the AAGPBL, Negro Leagues and strike out queen for the ages.
From the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, Dorothy “Mickey” Maguire was a catcher who played for 4 teams including the Racine Belles in 1943, the Milwaukee Chicks in 1944, the Grand Rapids Chicks in 1945 and the Muskegon Lassies from 1945 – 1949.
Maguire was an All-Star, 2x champion and had 6 playoff appearances, but today she is known for inspiring the telegram scene from A League of Their Own - https://baseballhall.org/discover-more/history/catchers-courage
Dorothy “Dottie” Kamenshek was one of the greatest players in AAGPBL history, where she was a 7x All-Star, 2x Batting Champ and All-time hit leader. She was the inspiration for the Geena Davis character in A League of Their Own.

Sophie Kurys, one of the All-Time great AAGPBL players. She was player of the year in 1946, and set all-time baseball record of 201 stolen bases in 203 attempts, 4x All-Star, 2x Champion, All-Time leader in SB’s and Runs.
Jean Faut, was the AAGPBL Player of the Year 2x. She was also a 2x Champ, All-Time ERA leader, All-Time Wins Leader, 2 perfect games, 2 no hitters and 3x 20 win seasons.
The Negro Leagues supplied baseball with three women players. The first was Toni Stone who made history as the 1st female to play in the Negro Leagues in 1953 for the Indianapolis Clowns. - https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/2f33485c
Connie Morgan replaced Toni Stone on the Clowns when Stone’s contract was sold to Kansas City she had previously starred for the Philadelphia Honey Drippers.
Mamie “Peanut” Johnson was the 1st female pitcher to play in the Negro Leagues – She won 33 of 41 decisions for the Clowns
