This week as part of Women's History Month, we introduce you to Betty Foss, who was an AAGPBL player of the year.
As a 1950 rookie, led the league in batting title with a .346 average, 24 doubles and a .471 slugging percentage. During her second season, she won her second batting title with a .368 average. Foss led the league with 34 doubles and 176 total bases, and tied for first place in home runs.
In 1952, Foss received the highest honor of the league when she earned the Player of the Year award leading all batters in runs (81), hits (137), doubles (26), triples (17) and RBI (74).
In 1953, she led the league in stolen bases (80), in runs (99) while hitting .321 and finishing behind her sister Joanne for the batting title.
In 1954 she hit .352, againi behind her sister Joanne (who won her third straight batting title). Her Fort Wayne Daisies lost the last ever game and championship to the Kalamazoo Lassies.
