This week as part of Women's History Month, we introduce you to some amazing women - today Dottie Kamenchek, one of the AAGPBL's all time greats.
At the age of 17, Dottie was spotted by scouts from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League for a tryout at Wrigley Field in Chicago. She would make the league and join the Rockford Peaches for the inaugural season in 1943.
A ten year veteran of the league, she was a 7x All-Star. In 1946, Dottie led the league with a .316 average, and repeated again in 1947 with a .306 average. Over the course of her career she only struck out .02% of the time (81 times in 3,736 at bats).
New York Yankee Wally Pipp once said she was the most accomplished player he had ever seen, man or woman. (Remember, he played with Ruth and Gehrig).
Dottie is part of the AAGPBL permanent display at the Baseball Hall of Fame.
